I spent three days on vacation in Batangas last January. On this same occasion, I broke my ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser. Water went in the phone (unfortunately, I locked the buttons of the waterproof bag but not the zip lock, pffft.) Tried to save it through covering it with uncooked rice, but there was no hope.

It took three more weeks before I finally chose which mobile phone to buy. I stick with the ASUS brand since I trust the quality and the product price is pocket-friendly for me. I tried to search for the same model, however, I was told that it was already phased out in the market. The latest release though is the Zenfone 3 series (Zenfone 3 Laser, Zenfone 3 Max, Zenfone 3 Deluxe and Zenfone 3 Ultra).
I picked the Zenfone 3 Max 5.5 inches, silver variant. The model is available in four colors: Silver, Gray, Gold and the just-released Rose Pink.

A quick glance on the basics of the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max 5.5:

-4100 mAh non-removable battery
-hybrid card slot (you can either insert two sim cards or one sim card and one memory card)
-16mp rear camera with laser, 8mp front camera
-internal memory of up to 32GB; external memory up to 128GB
Add on: Fingerprint scanner (the square-shaped concave under the camera lens), Reverse charging via OTG/cable (acts like a charger/powerbank for other phones.)

If you want to check out the technical specification of this device, go over the ASUS website.

I have been following dedicated groups for this phone model on Facebook. Some users have listed different issues they have encountered with their handsets. I listed down the most common ones:

Hairline crack. The crack occurs at the screw sections near the charging port. Although there were cases where the crack happened at the headphone jack port, the most common and frequent are at the screws. Mobile owners are advised to bring their phones to ASUS service centers to get the back cover replaced.

EDIT: I noticed one of my screws already has the crack. I don't mind since it is not so obvious. :)

Ghost touch. Some users experienced ghost touches after updating their ASUS Zenfone Max 3 to the latest software update.

How to reverse charge using ASUS Zenfone 3 Max?

I tried it myself. I did not configure any settings to make it work, I just plug the OTG cable, and the charging cable of another phone on the other end. However, though, reverse charging will only work using the Zenfone 3 Max if the battery level is at 20% or higher.

Are the file viewable on Gallery when stored on Cloud storage (i.e. Google Drive/Photos)?
The photos are viewable, the videos and music however, are not. You need a Wi-Fi or data connection to be able to do so.

Fortunately for me, I have not encountered major issues affecting performance since I bought my Zenfone 3 Max. I have been using it for a month now and so far I am very much pleased with its features and functions.  I experienced a few glitches here and there, particularly the photo quality, but the software update (I am using the 187 update now) fixed it for me.

The ASUS Zenfone 3 Max is not a new release, in fact it has been in the market since August 2016. However, the model is still a popular choice among those who plan to buy it (considering it as an option against Samsung J7, Oppo F1S and other models). Plus, there are stores that offer freebies when you buy the model. I got myself a (non-branded) Bluetooth speaker and Powerbank.

The ASUS Zenfone 3 Max 5.5 is originally priced at 10,995Php, but ASUS announced that the model's price has now dropped to 9,995Php. :)
